2021 Middle School/Junior High Track and Field Information
Athletes are expected to be prompt and participate at every practice and meet to which they are selected. A bus will transport students from East Samford School to Auburn Junior High School. Practices are Monday—Thursday from 4:00-5:15 pm at the Auburn Junior High School track. Athletes should be dressed and ready to participate at that time. Pick up is in the front of the field house at 5:15 pm; please make arrangements for your child to be picked up promptly. Repeated late pick up may result in dismissal from the team.
The number of athletes is limited, even more so this season, in order to provide a safe and productive learning environment. Team selection is based on time trials, teacher recommendations, attendance, grades, work ethic, talent and the ability to get along with others. To remain on the team, athletes must continue these traits throughout the season. Athletes will be required to ask three teachers to complete an online athlete recommendation form due by first practice.
The first day of conditioning for tryouts will be the week of Monday, February 1, 2021 from 4:00-5:15. Athletes should only attend on their scheduled day. The second weeks schedule will be announced during that first week.
Monday, February 1, 2021- 8th grade girls
Tuesday, February 2, 2021- 7th grade girls
Wednesday, February 3, 2021- 8th grade boys
Thursday February 4, 2021- 7th grade boys
Conditioning will continue Monday-Thursday (weather permitting) and will conclude Thursday, February 18, 2021 with first cuts. The following week (Feb. 22-25) will be final tryouts with time trials to determine the final team roster. Athletes are expected to attend all sessions. Any athlete who misses two practices prior to tryouts without a doctor’s excuse will be prohibited from continuing. Please scan QR code above and complete form to sign up for Track and Field.
No athlete may participate in conditioning unless he/she has submitted the required paperwork. All forms are valid for one year and apply to any sport. Previous participation in a sport in the 2020-21 school year are still valid. Coaches are unable to accept any forms or fees. The participation fee is $30.00, which covers meet fees, and will be due Wednesday, March 03, 2021. Additional funds are generated by working the concessions at the home meets and parents are encouraged to volunteer. A “Signup Genius” will be sent out prior to each meet.
Uniforms will be ordered once final teams’ selection is made and will be $40.00. If an athlete competed in Cross Country this past season another uniform is not required.
Time changes and cancellations of practices and/or meets will be posted on AHS track page and an email will be sent to both athlete and parent.
